Mixed Carex Sedge is a live, grass-like foliage plant supplied in a 5.5cm pot with an approximate overall height of 15cm including the pot. Its fine, arching leaves make it a great choice for adding texture, cover and a more natural look to bioactive vivariums, terrariums and paludarium-style setups.
Carex is typically better suited to humid, tropical to temperate-style enclosures rather than arid desert habitats. Most Carex prefer consistently moist, well-drained substrate and do not perform well if allowed to dry out for long periods, so they are best used in enclosures with regular misting, higher humidity zones, or damp planted areas.
Typical uses in reptile and amphibian setups:
- Foreground or midground planting in bioactive vivariums
- Adding light cover for small reptiles and amphibians
- Softening hardscape such as cork bark, wood and rocks
- Naturalistic planting in humid gecko, frog and temperate woodland-style enclosures
- Edge planting in paludariums or moisture-retentive areas
Care tips:
- Keep the substrate lightly to evenly moist, but not stagnant or waterlogged
- Best positioned in bright, indirect light or partial shade
- Well suited to humid setups with regular airflow
- Trim older foliage as needed to keep growth tidy
- Not usually the best choice for hot, dry or fully arid enclosures
Because this is sold as a mixed Carex selection, foliage colour and exact variety may vary. General Carex guidance indicates that most forms are clump-forming sedges that prefer sun to light shade and reliably moist soil, with many commonly grown varieties remaining evergreen and compact, making them useful for decorative planted displays and naturalistic enclosure design.
