Current Opportunities
Animal Care & Retail Specialist – Level 3 Required
Location: Colwick, Nottingham
Hours: Approximately 24–40 hours per week; part-time or full-time considered
Weekend work: Essential
Pay: From £13.50 per hour, depending on experience and suitability, with a pay review following successful completion of a 3-month probation period
We are currently recruiting for a hands-on, multi-role position at our Colwick, Nottingham site. This is not a shop-only role. The successful applicant will be expected to work confidently across animal care, warehouse operations, stock handling, order fulfilment, and customer service.
This role is ideal for someone who is practical, adaptable, and comfortable working in a busy retail and operational environment where no two days are the same.
The role involves regular lifting, moving stock, and standing for extended periods, so applicants should be comfortable with physical work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high standards of care for reptiles and amphibians
- Support customers in-store, by phone, and online
- Pick, pack, and process customer orders accurately and efficiently
- Receive, handle, move, and organise stock
- Assist with warehouse and general operational duties
- Support the day-to-day running of the shop and animal areas
- Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and welfare throughout the site
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 qualification in Animal Care, Animal Management, or equivalent
- Confident, hands-on experience working with reptiles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including face-to-face, telephone and email communication
- Availability to work weekends as a standard part of the role
- A practical, proactive, and reliable approach to work
- Previous experience in a fast-paced retail, warehouse, or similar environment
- Willingness to work across both customer-facing and warehouse-focused duties
- Comfortable with physical work, including lifting, moving stock, packing orders, and standing for extended periods
Desirable
- Experience with fish or aquatics
- Experience in stock control, fulfilment, or warehouse operations
- Full UK driving licence
- A genuine interest in specialist animal care and retail operations
